I know it's a losing battle, but "affirmative action for white people" drives me batty. AA is meant to address historic inequalities. Using the term with "for white people" undermines the legitimacy of Affirmative Action as it's intended to work. insidehighered.com/blogs/just-vis…
Saying the scandal is "affirmative action for white people" casts doubt on legit and just uses of affirmative action and poisons the well. I wish we'd stop.
Affirmative action for white kids doesn't exist because the white kids are simply using the system as it was designed to perpetuate their privilege. They're getting preferential treatment, not "affirmative action."
I know the subheadline teaser above could mislead, but when I published the piece, that was the intention. I wanted to provoke a response to get people to see why I think it's a mistake to label rich people working inside a white supremacist system as "affirmative action."
