This DB story disputes the earlier reports of him being run over prior to getting shot. Surveillance shows that the assailant used his car to back into Cali's car in an attempt to get his attention and lure him out of his home. The distraction gave him the perfect opportunity. 
Fingerprints and surveillance at the crime scene have led to the arrest of 24 year old Anthony Comello from NJ.
Sources described him as "nuts."
Cali had reportedly told Comello to stay away from his niece who was at the home at the time of the murder.
