I have used @SafaricomPLC's #Fuliza in the past few weeks to learn it. Its a saviour when you are in a jam - at the supermarket when you're short, when you need to send mum something and your MPESA is dry, when fuel is running out and the month is at the corner...
What you cannot do with #Fuliza: buy credit, pay KAPS parking (*486*1#) or use any of the short codes, pay your Mshwari loan... (essentially you cannot pay for any of the @SafaricomPLC services)...

Yesterday I went to Naivas and when I finished and needed to pay for parking, 😳
But be very aware of the costs. Its serious costs for a useful service. Look at the screenshots here carefully. You will have to pay a one time fee & interest on the overdraft.

@SafaricomPLC have not disclosed the tarrifs in an easy to find way. See FAQs. safaricom.co.ke/faqs/faq/512
So if you #Fuliza 400 shillings to someone, @SafaricomPLC will charge a transaction fee of ksh 11 (money to @SafaricomPLC). Then your interest to pay back will be sh 4.11!

You pay interest EVEN ON THE TRANSACTION FEE THAT YOU PAID THEM!! Fair???
I'm told @SafaricomPLC has given overdrafts worth more than 100B 🤑🥶 so far... please know, dear peculiar Kenyan, that you are making them wealthy, as you make yourself poorer. As you #Fuliza, then take Mshwari you are getting short term convenience and long term poverty.
One lady at the @naivas told me yesterday that #Fuliza has changed her buying habits.

"Before, nikikosa doh, I prioritise and buy what I need - like today I'd have just bought milk & bread. With Fuliza even what I cant afford now I buy!"

3 days ago, a 23 year old guy told me that he has built a credit limit over time of 25k by regularly borrowing and paying back. Now he has 25k on Mshwari and 25k on Fuliza.

"50k you guy!!"

He couldn't tell that everytime he borrowed and paid back, @SafaricomPLC 😂😂😂.
Haba na haba hujaza kubaba. Every time you borrow, others laugh as you get poorer. Beware!

Today, I spoke to a policeman who is also a farmer in Busia (where his family lives). He took some time to educate me about the challenges that we have for #food4Kenya and agriculture. These are some of the things that he told me.
He told me that he has in store 200 bags of maize that he is unable to sell because @NCPB_KE is taking too little maize at bad prices. "They want to take my maize at Sh2300, which is just my cost of production. How is that business? How do I pay back the loan I took" #Food4Kenya
While we spoke, he called a friend of his from Uasin Gishu who is a larger scale farmer. Kirwa, the friend, has 8,000 bags of maize in his stores. "@NCPB_KE is only taking about 2 lorries per farmer and even for what they have taken, they don't pay on time!" #Food4Kenya

I had a very interesting conversation with a gentleman who I have known to be very active in church. Lately, he is disillusioned. He told me a simple christian principle is 'when in doubt don't do it.'
Now. Lately church has taken very dubious money for Harrambees to build churches. "Ask any Christian around you," he said, "we would be happy to pray fervently under a tree until we can build the church with clean money. Why would church especially the 'old' ones take that money?
Much of the money that has been given to church is obviously fruits of corruption and theft of public money. What credibility would church have to speak out against corruption or theft in the public domain? Is this why the clergy are so quiet as Kenyans suffer?

Yesterday, at @naivas_kenya I figured out how easy it is for bad people to get a hold of personal details. Its scary. I actually practically picked someone's identity and got to know a hell of a lot about them - all within 10 minutes! Let me tell you how...
I was standing next to this lady at @naivas_kenya ion Westlands. She had to give out her number to the cashier... "0722... 000... 000" (not exactly obviously). It was an easy number to remember so I memorised it and typed it into my Truecaller and voila! I know her name & email!
So then I google her. From her Facebook account, I know she went to Precious Blood Kilungu, I know her birthday, that she lives/lived in Ruaka, from her twitter her middle name and that she is in a relationship with "Sam" (not his real name)

I keep thinking back to a discussion a few months on reddit about THE BELGARIAD. Several comments were made about it being cliche and pedestrian, and someone said, “Yeah, it’s a fine story, but it’s never going to be a classic.”
And all I could think to respond was, “It’s over thirty years later and we’re still talking about it. How is that NOT ‘a classic’?
But that got me thinking- I cite THE BELGARIAD (and THE MALLOREON, its sequel series) as one of my influential works. But what is that influence? I know I’ve read the whole series several times. My copies of the books are in terrible shape.
