Extremism from a different direction, but will the reaction be the same?- Christchurch shootings: Dozens killed in terror attack on two mosques twitter.com/i/events/11063…
Four people detained, we have a global extremism problem other than The Islamic State. We’ve had multiple preemptive arrests in States & now this devastating attack. Perpetrators sought to broadcast to their followers, supporters around the world via social media....
These are not one-off attacks, but a serious and deadly movement of hate, perpetrating violence on behalf of an ideology. It’s terrorism, not simply a mass shooting, and requires a coordinated response. In normal times, the U.S. would try to help lead and coordinate
For insightful perspective on this, see @intelwire discussion here. We have manifesto’s from perpetrators citing other inspirational perpetrators, during AQ days this might be Awlaki or Bin Laden, now it’s Breivik theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/…
Over last decade, we’ve spent billions trying defend & mitigate against AQ/ISIS inspired terrorism, we have Coast Guard LT arrested preemptively, now #NewZealandShootings we should react collectively & consistently- worry about copycats unified by social media & ideology
