Unpopular opinion but I feel kind of bad for these girls. I don’t think they knew their mom bribed their way into school. Now they’re being mocked across the country and they have to leave school. Got to be kind of rough. It’s their mom’s fault though.
I’m being informed that they did know. In that case, never mind what I just said. This is what I get for being sympathetic for once.
I have learned a valuable lesson here: always reject any temptation to see the best in people.

How can there be like 600 WW2 movies (many of them great) yet almost no Civil War movies, except for a couple mediocre ones from the 90's? The Civil War featured so many epic battles and fascinating characters, so much drama and tragedy, yet screenwriters won't go near it.
I know the answer, of course. A compelling Civil War movie would require you to portray both sides in a mature and nuanced way. But the PC police would demand that the Confederates be made into cartoons, which means you lose many of the most compelling and interesting characters
I wasn’t a huge fan of the book, but I thought Chernow’s hagiography about Grant maybe stood a chance of becoming an epic Hollywood film.

A podcast listener emailed me a question, wanting to know what I make of Matthew 27:52-54, where Matthew tells us that "many" saints of the Old Testament were raised at Christ's crucifixion and "appeared to many people" in Jerusalem. I've always been perplexed by this passage
It seems very odd that such an incredible and dramatic event wasn't mentioned by any other Gospel writer, or any Epistle writer, or any historian of the time. And Im not sure how to square the whole thing with Paul's statement that Christ is the "first fruits of the resurrection"
Seems this gang of raised saints would be the first fruits, by Matthew's telling. It's a head scratcher. But I think we have to be okay with head scratchers sometimes. That's never the answer we want but sometimes it's the only one we've got.

The best “Christian movie” of the last 20 years is Calvary, and it isn’t even a Christian movie. A secular director and studio succeeded in offering a more nuanced and insightful reflection on faith and suffering than any Christian studio has ever produced. And it’s not close.
I love The Passion, but this is better than The Passion. Just a more skillfully made, more nuanced, more insightful film.
The Passion is great. Definitely a strong second. But I put Calvary above it because Calvary, like the great Christian novels of the 19th and 20th century, doesn’t require you to be Christian in order to appreciate it.

Okay this is getting cool! A +3 mace would be good enough at depth 5, but also *of paralysis* -- this character is going DEEP! Armor still mediocre. Unhesitatingly enchanted fire wand up to level 6 as soon as inventory started to get tight.
ULP! Shit just got real... inventory was full so I started "trying out scrolls". Found a map, glyphs, aaaaaaand "summon monsters". My armor is protected from that acid blob on the right, but not my weapon. Gonna further enchant my go-to fire staff to try to burn an escape route!

OK, well. I have a lot of thoughts about this. So I guess this is going to be a thread. Read the whole thing because I'm gonna try to get some nuance in, OK?

The article is called The Value of Continuing to Share Meals With Those We Disagree With.
The author talks about Hillel and Shammai, who were major sages of the last century BCE/first century CE., and who disagreed about a lot. Gonna start with some context for them before I get into the "should you keep having dinner with the Trump voters in your lives?" q.
Here's the text Bryan was referencing. "These and these are both the words of the living God"--both schools of Hillel & of Shammai hold true, holy, God-infused positions (whether on principles of what's kosher or how to light Hanukah candles or issues around marriage or etc).

Entering Disneyland with youngest and her friend.

Will return with my credit card, or on it.
Daughter has Disney plan that involves getting lost, getting found by staff, and then being taken directly to the Real Mickey.

Why not just go speak to the Grand Jury? Clearly, it's not about avoiding spending more time talking about the investigation and your experience...
