CBP had a glitch that accidentally changed court dates to a later day.
People didn't find out in time. When they showed up at border, running late, they were denied entry.
ICE lawyers then said they should be deported. sandiegouniontribune.com/news/immigrati…
It has zero to do with migrant protection. They want to make it hell to keep court dates & find lawyers. It's much harder on that side of the border.
Even if it's the gov's fault, ICE turns around & says migrants should be deported anyway.
Migrants have to wake up early, get to the border, wait for hours, get shuttled to court, & wait more.
All for a few minutes in front of a judge in a process that's impossible to understand w/out a lawyer—not guaranteed in immigration court.
It won't be the same when this comes to different border towns. Judges may agree w/ICE & have people deported for the gov's mistakes.
After all that, migrants are whisked back to Mexico.
