Triangulation is a psychological abuse tactic in which the abuser pits one relationship against another. It’s used by the abuser to gain control & power over the target. Psychopaths use triangulation to appear to be popular & in high demand. They use it adeptly to groom victims.
Triangulation is used by the narcissistic and psychopathic abuser to give the target a false sense of security because they are the favored one or that they share a special bond over the other relationship.
Later triangulation is used to do the exact opposite, the psychopath creates confusion, insecurity and imbalance in the relationship by generating jealousy. They seek attention, solace, empathy from the other relationship instead of the one they’re in.
Confused, insecure people are easier to control and manipulate. Social media is also the perfect platform for narcissists and psychopaths to triangulate by being strategically ambiguous, lure others into contact, to create public attention and to generate jealousy.
My caution regarding the Conways comes from knowing how adeptly psychopaths use triangulation to manipulate. I don’t claim to have special knowledge about the Conways but the cognitive dissonance created with triangulation is a red flag of manipulators.
