One thing that's important to note about the "only seven black kids were accepted to Stuyvesant" story: It doesn't mean only seven black kids qualified for admission to Stuyvesant.
NYC's specialized high schools each have different admissions standards, but students rank their preferences for admissions, and they don't always rank the toughest to get into the highest.
A lesson of college admissions is relevant here: When a school's population of a given ethnic group drops low enough, students from that group tend to just stop applying.
None of the NYC specialized high schools have good numbers on black and brown admissions, but several are a lot higher than Stuyvesant. There are kids who would have been admitted to Stuy who are choosing not to go there, for that reason and others.
Similarly, "were accepted by" and "will enroll in" are two different things. Not every kid who's accepted by Stuy will wind up going there.
And don't get me started on the bozos who are assuming that all the Stuy kids who aren't black or Latinx are white. Um, no.
TLDR: The specialized high schools in NYC are a weird, sprawling, complicated mess. Proceed with caution when opining.
