Truly terrible to try and separate withdrawal agreement from political declaration.
The backstop constitutes the most significant self-imposed downgrading of this country's status in its lifetime. Without the political declaration, you cannot assess how likely it is to come into force.
The withdrawal agreement simply cannot be evaluated on its own.
May's deal really is terrible, you know. We stop thinking about it because we've become obsessed with the chance of it passing rather than its content. But it is so, so bad.
If - God forbid - that thing ever passes, everyone will hate it. Remainer, Leaver, there'll be no difference. Everyone will hate it and it'll last for years.
Anyone backing it needs their fucking head examined.
