1/ I think it’s time to update the Comey flipped theory in light of all the new information that has come to light recently.
2/ Let’s start with clarifying what this could mean about Comey. Flipping doesn’t make you a good guy or an ethical guy. It doesn’t mean he’s a white hat. Murderers flip and help prosecute other bad guys. It doesn’t absolve them. People flip to save their ass.
3/ Next it’s important to keep in mind the political environment during the transition. Democrats and Hillary were openly blaming Comey for her loss. Besides Trump he was their most hated villain. Screaming about McCabe’s corruption would’ve been drowned out as partisanship.
4/ Comey was walked into a meeting at the Oval Office where the strategy of how to perpetuate the Russia investigation beyond the end of the Obama admin was discussed. The implication was obvious. They wanted to bring down Trump.
5/ Comey had just been put through the ringer by McCabe and his henchmen during the Weiner laptop incident. He had dealt with the changing language of the Hillary email conclusions. He had to realize McCabe was a problem, a true believer.
6/ So what did the Obama Oval Office team come up with as next steps? They would send Comey in to “brief” the President on the dossier. Comey had to see that he would be the face of the coup plotters. He would be the one asked to carry the coup once the rest of the team was gone.
7/ Now here’s the central question, did Comey think the attempt to end Trump’s admin in the first few months was likely to succeed? He had to realize that with every day that passed Trump would gain more and more access to the information revealing what they did.
8/ I think Comey is a slimy asshole playing every side while glorifying himself. He allowed mass corruption to happen on his watch. Some say he did what he could so we would know of the corruption. Perhaps but that wasn’t his job.
Regardless Comey isn’t a fool. He’s strategic.

9/ Again, I’m not exploring whether Comey was a good guy. I’m exploring whether Comey flipped early, like as he met privately with Trump in TT. So what was in his mind and awareness on that day is very important in assessing that question.
10/ As important though is how the game has played out since. Here’s what we know on that front. Comey got fired. He released the memos, including the one he wrote the day of the TT meeting. They were used to publicly justify Mueller. After Mueller, McCabe and his team got fired.
11/ It also becomes clearer every day that McCabe was being monitored during the period following Comey’s firing through the Mueller appointment and in the early months of the Mueller investigation. Was Comey aware this would happen? Did he want it to happen?
12/ We also now know that Mueller cleared Trump. Would McCabe have cleared Trump? Ever? Comey knew Mueller. He knew Mueller would do a real investigation and report the real findings. He had to have known this was a much better outcome than McCabe’s attempted coup.
13/ I know Comey is giving an interview to Holt and he plays up the obstruction controversy but he just wrote an op ed saying he trusted Mueller. I view this as another attempt by Comey to straddle the middle which in reality is more helpful to Trump.
14/ History written 20 years from now will struggle to explain Comey. Especially as we get the results of the investigation into the corrupt actors at DOJ/FBI. Neither her nor Trump may ever admit the full scope of Comey’s cooperation. It’s not necessarily helpful.
15/ Lets see how #Phase2 plays out. It will give us much more insight into this question. As of now you are once again forced into one of two conclusions. Either Comey flipped and cooperated or Trump is just one lucky son of a bitch. /end
