I remember my trip to NYSC camp at Ikare Akoko up till date, I still don't understand why I took that decision and how I survived the trip. After my clearance at the dept of surgery, UITH, that particular morning around 10am, I drove straight to MDCN in Victoria Island..
Camp was meant to close that particular day and I was determined not to waste any more time at home chilling for NYSC. I left MDCN 4pm after the usual razzmatazz..
I got to ojota and I saw a long stretch of traffic jam caused by stop.and search by the military..
What! I looked around and saw one military man, I got down and went to meet him, I told him I was going to camp in Ikare Akoko. I asked him to help me out of my predicament, he searched my car and within minutes he parted the traffic like the red sea. He joined me and I zoomed..
He dropped at Berger and I gave him 2k to transport himself back to Ojota. Got to Iwo road around 6 30pm. It was dark already and I proceeded to Akure. Got to Akure exactly 10pm, stopped by at a local joint to eat cowleg pepper soup..one yeye guy at the beer parlour told me..
Ikare was just 1hr away, oh boy I decided to proceed again. The road was dark, bad and deserted. I didn't even think of the car, what if ? Na so I drive enter Ikare junction. How I survived the road, the bend, gullies by the road side on top speed can only be by God's grace..
I got to Ikare junction around 12.30am, I saw a garage, a popular spot so I parked. I saw some Babcock guys with their cars. Two of them were heading to Benin, 3 were meant to be in camp in Ikare. They were drinking and eating with babes. Those 3 guys told me to chill with them..
Haa, which kind human beings be this? 12.30am, they told me to wait till 2am that we would drive to camp together. People dey this life..I was speechless.
After one bottle, I left them..make una no spoil my life. I got to camp few minutes after 1am.
The soldier at the gate was confused, my car was tinted, he must have assumed that I was an official so he opened the gate and saluted me lol. I drove straight to the camp clinic.
5 mins after, I saw 3 soldiers, mean looking at the clinic. They asked for the owner of the car..
I confessed, the soldier wanted to slap me. I begged him, he was pissed. He asked me to drive out of the camp..wey I don reach here? E no go happen..
My camp CMD told them I was the doctor to man the clinic at night for 3 weeks, na so dem soft. They seized my car..
The commandant threatened to send me home. I begged him, we agreed that I wouldn't drive within the camp. I saw some bottles of whiskey in his office, immediately I knew we were brothers. I offered to replace the bottles and we became friends.
Na so shayo pave way for me. Whiskey made us become friends..

The man dey follow up steady even when I left camp.
God saved me on the road.. whiskey gave me a soft landing.
