2/Excellent article that fails to connect the final dot. Trump must ‘please’ his base so, as Mulvaney points out, he can be re-elected. But why does Trump’s re-election outweigh the health care of tens of millions of Americans and jeopardize GOP Congressional seats in 2020? Why?
3/Why is Trump willing to jeopardize all that and much more? Because the moment Trump becomes a private citizen, the moment Trump is no longer protected by his office-Trump will be arrested and indicted in NY or elsewhere for unpardonable State crimes. Trump will face prison.
4/The DOJ policy against indicting a sitting president creates a moral hazard of catastrophic proportions! It encourages presidential malfeasance and policy whose ONLY goal is presidential self-protection. In this case, it endangers the health care of over 20 million Americans.
5/ But it is easy to see how a policy that encourages a man to hide behind his office to evade justice would put all our lives at risk. How a policy that encourages the man who controls our nuclear arsenal to protect himself first creates a moral hazard of global proportions!
6/And then there is the man now in the WH; the man who now controls our arsenal. We know who and what this man is and we know the lengths he might go to to save himself. How dare WE let our reps place this man above the law? And how dare THEY endanger every life on this planet?
It’s frightening enough that Trump may well be compromised and beholden to foreign influences but to place him above the law and incentivize him to do everything in his power to remain in office to avoid prosecution? That is MADNESS.
