This particular thread is for everyone. Especially the eczema diagnosing people.
#dermatology.
Have you ever seen this before?
Let me say it like 10 times maybe it will get to the people behind.
This is not eczema
This is not eczema
This is not eczema.
Eczema is not a diagnosis. Eczema can be caused by so many different things. This is a fungal infection of the skin called Pityriasis versicolor
Commonly affects the areas where you have oil (sebum) because the organism causing it loves sebum. So you'll find it most of the time on the face, chest, back, shoulders.
It is not uncommon to treat it and it shows itself again months later. O stubborn gan.
It can appear darker than this in some people. Usually doesn't produce any symptoms but the discoloration (can be itchy at times especially in our hot environment)
It has a tendency to recur. Treating it now doesn't give immunity against recurrence.
Triple action creams like Funbact A, skineal or ytacand is NOT the treatment. All you'll do is worsen it.
Treatment is with antifungals AFTER a doctor has seen you. It is not with herbal concoctions. Wearing dark colored clothes causes more heat and worsens symptoms
Eczema on the other hand is an inflammation of the skin. It may be acute where you have itching, vesicles (containing fluid) and redness or chronic where you have scaling, thickening and exaggeration of skin markings called lichenification.
Eczema is not a fungal infection please. Can be caused by different things ranging from atopic dermatitis to contact dermatitis.
Treatment is completely different from that of pityriasis versicolor
Acute ezcema
Chronic ezcema
And my Yoruba people can confuse doctors.
What's wrong with your child?
Ela? Alefo? And they all have different meanings.
Just see a doctor.
Let me tell you a secret about the skin. If you have something on it..and you don't know what it is. It's better off left alone
Till you get to someone who knows. We do more harm by applying all sorts and you then confuse the doctor. Just use hypoallergenic wash and moisturize adequately. The skin loves to be moisturized.

Any questions?🤔
To my colleagues, any ideas on what you'd like to know more about in dermatology?
And lastly, please don't go treating yourselves. Just to sensitize us on common skin issues. Note that not everything that appears white or yellow on the skin is pityriasis versicolor.
The skin responds in only a few ways to different things. See a doctor. Avoid self medication.
To my colleagues....Can I get 3 differentials?😊
