SEEMA VERMA - who’s pushed Medicaid work rules and other controversial policies - has spent millions of taxpayer dollars on GOP communications consultants to help with her PR and image. politico.com/story/2019/03/… Exclusive with @adamcancryn
Verma’s team of consultants includes (1) a specialist in helping GOP women with their brands and (2) a longtime colleague from Indiana who got blocked from a CMS job.

Their rate: $185-$200 per hour, apiece.
Verma’s also leaned on NAHIGIAN STRATEGIES, which is co-led by the former chair of Trump’s transition.

They’ve been paid $2M-plus.

1) Ending the HIV epidemic. The ACA’s Medicaid expansion is a major source of coverage for HIV patients. The ACA also created new protections for patients with HIV/AIDS. nyti.ms/2UX0mIO?smid=n…

Jared Kushner has spent millions of taxpayer dollars on the "peace plan" he was tasked to broker, which is already behind schedule. During this time, his family business received hundreds of millions of dollars in "loans" from Israel (a fact this WaPo piece skips mentioning).
2. No Jared Kushner-brokered “Mideast Peace Plan” yet, however, Kushner family also received a bailout on their most troubled business investment (made by Jared in 2007) headache - a $1.4 billion mortgage on “666 5th Avenue” that was due in February 2019. money.cnn.com/2018/08/03/new…
3. Brookfield Asset Management paid the rent for Kushners’ 666 5th Avenue boondoggle for the entire 99-year term upfront. The largest investor in Brookfield? Qatar’s sovereign fund (Kushner Sr had approached Qatar for a bailout for 666 just weeks after Trump’s inauguration).

Michigan is shamelessly attempting to design Medicaid work requirements to disproportionately burden Black beneficiaries. Whether or not this policy is ultimately implemented, please know that it points to larger patterns in the experiences of Black Medicaid beneficiaries.
A Black woman I interviewed in Michigan 5 yrs ago: “if you’re white & you have Medicaid…you are looked upon with more sympathy...it's ‘she’s going through a hard time right now'…If it’s us…then we’re looking for a hand out…& we are treated as such”
Black #Medicaid beneficiaries know exactly what the deal is b/c their experiences inform them. Policies like we are seeing in MI right now fit into a larger set of processes that ultimately undermine equality & democratic citizenship, especially 4 Black folk #FragmentedDemocracy
