had a really good conversation with a friend about sex positivity and it helped crystallize so many of the things that i've been thinking

the problem with sex positivity is that the sex is not GOOD. as a cis woman who has sex with men.....sex isn't good!!!
i used to be a huge slutty slut but in the last two years...i've stopped having casual sex

just not interested. why? because having casual sex means having BAD sex

i had a very nice experience today which i want to share and -SHOCK!- it involves me speaking positively of a man

which doesn't happen much round these here parts
i went to meet one of my best friends. she's recently started dating this dude

he was coming to meet us (so i could Assess Him. you know, that terrifying Best Friend Assessing Your Boo moment)
as he came into the cafe, he saw that we were in an animated conversation

he goes "oh hey! i can come back in five minutes if you need to talk privately or anything"

Fellas. Please don't publicly offer to "back up" women at cons.

Why? Because there have been many, many instances of known harassers making this offer. Genuinely good dudes doing it normalizes the behavior and gives harassers cover.
And sure, you could say the same about any behavior that harassers use to pretend to be Good Dudes. But the difference is, this offer is explicitly inserting yourself into a conference safety process.
Con Safety requires training and institutional backup, so even if you are a good dude with good intentions, the likelihood that you can successfully intervene is low. And in cases where you *can* successfully intervene? You can just...do it. You don't need to declare it first.

Many tell me that the majority of British people are not against EU citizens and that we are welcome. I used to believe that. Can I still? It’s simple: if this were true, this majority would be with us. Visibly. Noisily. I don’t see nor hear them. 2/
Of course I know that we have amazing friends and champions. Of course I know many of you are. But this is Twitter and we have to recognise its echo chamber problem. Beyond it the situation is dire. I have heard so many stories about apathy I can no longer remember them all. 3/
