1/🚨SPOILER ALERT: Has anyone done a thinkity think piece comparing the relationship between Killmonger and T'Challa from @theblackpanther and Adelaide and Red from @JordanPeele 's @UsMovie? If so,
2/Bc here is what I am thinking & this might be a reach but stretching is good for the body: Killmonger is descended from ppl stolen from their homeland and enslaved in the U.S. The Constitution barred the fed gov't from ending the importation of slaves in the states for 20 yrs.
3/U.S. Constitution - Article 1 Section 9: "The Migration or Importation of such Persons as any of the States now existing shall think proper to admit, shall not be prohibited by the Congress prior to the Year [1808]” but importing slaves could be taxed up to $10/head bc:
4/Even once slavery ended in 1865, improvement in the lives of the formerly enslaved and their descendants only came incrementally after hard fought battles in courts, in the streets, at lunch counters, and at the ballot box and after many people were killed or injured.
5/Killmonger figures that it would have been nice if T'Challa & Wakanda had extended some of its largess and might to help the offspring of the folks that Mama Africa sold off.
6/So now Killmonger in the delectable form of Michael Bae Jordan @michaelb4jordan is prepared to take out King T'Challa so he can get his and help his ppl.
7/Now Red, who is the kidnapped young Adelaide, is stuck in the underground tunnels with the Tethered who were created as part of a gov't program that was ultimately disbanded. The Tethered are left underground to eat raw rabbits, are otherwise forgotten & must fend 4 themselves.
8/Red, who knows about life in the sunshine gathers the Tethered to "Give us, us free!" by any means necessary because Adelaide/Little Red Run From the Hood ran off and forgot where she came from and forgot her people suffering in the tunnels.
9/I could get more into this, but I have a day job so I will end by saying that it is fascinating that both Killmonger & Red/little Adelaide have to die for revolutionary change to occur & the ones that could have been helping from jump get to ride off into the sunset. THE END.
