Voting. Bunch of local stuff on the ballot in addition to a state Supreme Court seat. Candidates are Lisa Neubauer, an appeals court judge who spent 20 years in private practice, and Brian Hagedorn, a former Scott Walker counsel

Via @sbauerAP, it looks like former Scott Walker counsel Brian Hagedorn has pulled out a narrow victory in yesterday’s Supreme Court election. Subject to possible recount, Hagedorn benefited from margins in NE Wisconsin, weak turnout in Milwaukee County.

.#Wisconsin story. @JMilesColeman worked with @DecisionDeskHQ to break down this week’s state Supreme Court election. They will get to turnout next week. Democratic-backed candidate had won decisively in a race two years ago; maps here suggest what was different this time.
Context on the Neubauer-Hagedorn results above, by @BruceMurphyMKE. Points to @DanielBice for retweeting this, since one of Murphy’s arguments is that this campaign reflected diminished influence of @journalsentinel, Wisconsin’s largest newspaper.
Lastly, @SykesCharlie offers his take on how Hagedorn pulled out a narrow victory despite being abandoned by prominent GOP-leaning business groups: It came down to self-identifying Christians buying his claim to be a victim of religious persecution.

Mitch McConnell gets his Senate rule change, by @GlennThrush nytimes.com/2019/04/03/us/…
2. The change will shorten debate on sub-Cabinet & lower court nominations to two hours, to be allocated only to the two party leaders. McConnell pressed this change on his caucus after complaints from Trump that the Senate wasn't acting more quickly when he made nominations.
3. Today's change in Senate procedure helps solidify the legacy @senatemajldr will leave. He'll be remembered as a Senator who was loyal to Trump. When it counted, McConnell stood up to do what Trump wanted him to do. McConnell had posed for some years as an institutionalist;

2. One is that release of grand jury evidence presents genuinely difficult issues, many of which confronted the Leon Jaworski-led investigation of Watergate as well. There are good reasons not to make public information about people a grand jury decides not to indict.
3. On the other hand, there are other, perhaps even stronger reasons not to keep under wraps information pertaining to a President presumed by Justice Department policy to be immune from indictment. This came up during the Watergate investigation as well.

High turnout likely in Madison due to a mayoral election, so it's critical for the rest of the state to turn out & vote if we want a Constitutionalist judge.

State action will be central in fighting gerrymandering. In NC, where the @CommonCause conference is happening, the state Supreme Court is about to become 6 D, 1 R. And the constitution protects viewpoint, equal protection of laws, free and fair elections - a basis for complaint.
