Why does Rick Scott keep getting elected in Florida despite his company paying a record fine for defrauding Medicare, Medicaid & military Tricare? Because Florida, despite having the oldest population in America, is full of voters who care more about low taxes than healthcare.
Scott has also faced poorly run Democratic campaigns that failed to succinctly make the case against him on Medicare fraud, and have failed to turn out the significant black and brown Dem leaning populations. (Even Cuban-Americans are now split between the parties.)
My one-off explanation for why Florida is becoming redder and redder is that the fun grans who want to chill and see Celine Dion shows retire to Las Vegas, making Nevada bluer, while the ones who hate the big city taxes where they live (PA, NY, New England etc) retire to Florida.
