1. And another source says different numbers altogether - support for extension was 17 to 4 - so - it’s fair to say that we are seeing different bits of cabinet with different agendas telling very different stories of what happened but...
2. It is abundantly clear there is deep unhappiness - one v senior tory just told me - ‘she is making an art form of misjudgment - and in a world full of bad judgements this is a reubens or a Van Gogh, or even the whole Tate modern’
3. Here’s the fix - for one person it’s a sensible (and overdue maybe) outreach to the opposition - but for others it’s a terrible mistake to legitimize the opposition
4. Chat inevitably for some turning on PM again tonight - ‘genuine fury’ - ‘word is out tha tshe has to go now’ ... but again ...
5. Thing is, as one source in the room suggests- ‘she tried delivering Brexit with Tory votes. Tory brexiteers said no. Now she’s going to try to deliver Brexit with Labour votes’

1 Almost end of a long week in SW1 altho Lords look like they'll be going for quite some time yet - Cross party talks sound like they are serious and genuine, negotiators got into the guts of both their positions and technical details today
2. I'm told there might be more contacts tonight - not more face to face talks but it's all very live - skeptism is labour circles over whether govt is doing more so far than trying to explain merits of its deal, rather than suggest areas where they might budge
3. But this isn't just a stunt - suggestions it might be clear by tomorrow afternoon if process will actually be able to deliver anything, but talks, as we know, often turn to more talks, and more talks, and more talks

1. We've just done an interview with Geoffrey Cox - he says it's 'an article of faith' that Brexit happens, eurosceptics would have 'bitten off the arm' of the PM 5 yrs ago for a compromise like the one that might happen with Labour
2. Cox, who was crucial in Cabinet yday said 'if it is a choice between leaving and a customs union, then I will take leaving every single time' - tells colleagues they have to be prepared to move the red lines in order to get out
3. Cox won't be drawn on whether govt might offer Labour legal guarantees on any compromise that might be reached, but he is very clear, long term relationship can be changed at a later date under different govt - story online soon

1. Several Cabinet sources say crystal clear No 10 is genuine about conceding to Labour demands in order to get it thro - one minister present says it's 'you want a soft brexit? Here it is, you help shape it' - says Chief whip read out labour's '6 tests twice during the meeting
2. 2 big probs - will Labour be genuine and can they trust them? A lot of doubt in Cabinet tonight, and as ever, will Tory party implode - always been hypothetically possible May could get deal thro with cross party votes, then not been able to govern afterwards
3. Lots of dispute about longer delays - loyal sources claiming could still be May 22nd - but others say not true - a) it will be EU, not UK that decides length, but b) UK could beat the deadline as and when deal and legislation goes thro

OK, I've caught up with Twitter again & there's both some v. interesting exchanges & still a fair bit of apparent wider public confusion re: the date UK leaves the EU, A50 #extension & the SI to change 'exit day'. So, in interests of end-of-the-week clarity, here's another go. 1/
The date UK leaves the EU is an intl matter. It's not determined by whatever UK domestic law may say.Changing 'exit day' in UK law doesn't change date UK leaves the EU. See posts this wk by @woodstockjag & @DomWalsh13 as well as me, & eg @ProfMarkElliott & @carlgardner on here 2/
UK & EU have now agreed that A50 period, at the end of which the departing state leaves the EU, will be later than 29/3. The only way the UK still leaves the EU on 29/3 is if UK gov, or EU, or both, renege on the agreement reached last night. 3/

different perspectives from participants in same long Cabinet meeting with a significant disagreement over PM asking Tusk in letter for long extension to A50 process...

Fundamentally the PM did not summarise the Cabinet decision at end, laid out the long and short options..
PM having laid out options let the Cabinet comment, but did not seem to give her own view. Leadsom unhappy, asked to come in again at end of meeting to ask whether it was still a Brexit Cabinet ...
was discussion of a hybrid between a long and short extension. Ie you go long but then use that to get another go at MV passed (Bercow allowing) passed before mid April deadline for EP elections legislation, and then leave at end of June with the legislation, and it turns short

Theresa May indicated she would whip against amendments today (straight no to no deal, Malthouse etc)

Cabinet row ensued. Williamson, Grayling, Leadsom, Javid, Fox suggested whipping against Malthouse unwise

Remain wing led by Hammond for x-party consensus
Theresa May told that the party is coalescing around Malthouse and it would be mad to *whip* against it

Presumably whipping against Malthouse would lead to resignations, not least from Kit Malthouse

One source says they doubt the three line whip position can hold to end of day
Another source said whipping not decided. “Number 10 know they have a problem and will hopefully sort it” said a cabinet source

Ouch

If you whip against Spellman-Dromey (straight no to no deal amendment) you have to whip against Malthouse. So what do they do?

How to make sure revocation is in accordance with constitutional law?
Is it a power of Government?
Does it require a vote in Parliament?
Or does it require an Act of Parl?

The decision in Miller was based on on the Government assertion and assumption that A50 notice was NOT revocable.

We now know that is wrong.

Not only is it revocable.
It is UNILATERALLY revocable

Very often Hindus get asked -

“Do you folks believe in multiple gods”?

Other external observers, who have studied Hinduism more closely, ask -

“Do Hindus believe in God at all? Are they atheists? Or at best Monists? Definitely not strong theists like us Christians/Muslims”
These observations are not invalid or without basis. Many HIndus themselves would gladly agree that their way of life is not particularly theistic in orientation. The Political Hindu types among the younger generation would actually embrace this characterization.
And to be honest there is great support within the HIndu tradition for a non-theistic or at best monistic philosophical outlook
