1. Several Cabinet sources say crystal clear No 10 is genuine about conceding to Labour demands in order to get it thro - one minister present says it's 'you want a soft brexit? Here it is, you help shape it' - says Chief whip read out labour's '6 tests twice during the meeting
2. 2 big probs - will Labour be genuine and can they trust them? A lot of doubt in Cabinet tonight, and as ever, will Tory party implode - always been hypothetically possible May could get deal thro with cross party votes, then not been able to govern afterwards
3. Lots of dispute about longer delays - loyal sources claiming could still be May 22nd - but others say not true - a) it will be EU, not UK that decides length, but b) UK could beat the deadline as and when deal and legislation goes thro
4. What is however, finally clear, (in as much as anything ever stays the same in this story) the PM has chosen moving to softer Brexit rather than leaving without a deal - even tho for a LONG time she legitimised that as an option to please the party

So few thoughts from the train on this pretty weird situation.....
1. UK asking for short delay but expects to get a long way 2. Tusk pushing for long delay but it’s far from settled - as me and @BBCkatyaadler have been reporting, short delay still poss - Tusk and Macron don’t seem to be in same place so tonight’s meeting might be v stormy
3. PM who always kept leaving without deal on the table, now willing to do almost anything to avoid it 4. She has to show political process with Labour constitutes a plan, when it is a process, miles off anything agreed

1. PM's just arrived at Elysee Palace to see Macron - absolutely vital meeting - he and others are unlikely to refuse her request for extension, but there's a political cost at home for asking for delay at all, and EU might attach rather a lot of strings
2. LOTS of different views around Westminster and diplomatic circuit about where discussions will end up on delay - some believe a tight deadline end of June is more likely to put pressure on cross party talks to bear some kind of fruit
3. Most common view seems to consensus around long extension - some noting 9 month is the longest when there is a good bet that Theresa May would be around to conclude Brexit phase one, because after that, Tory MP s can have another go at ousting her

1 Almost end of a long week in SW1 altho Lords look like they'll be going for quite some time yet - Cross party talks sound like they are serious and genuine, negotiators got into the guts of both their positions and technical details today
2. I'm told there might be more contacts tonight - not more face to face talks but it's all very live - skeptism is labour circles over whether govt is doing more so far than trying to explain merits of its deal, rather than suggest areas where they might budge
3. But this isn't just a stunt - suggestions it might be clear by tomorrow afternoon if process will actually be able to deliver anything, but talks, as we know, often turn to more talks, and more talks, and more talks

One thing is missing in this brilliant speleological analysis of #Brexit: the important Neolithic flint mining industry that had its HQ in Grime's Graves in Norfolk. These underlie an area of some 37 haha (91 acres) with at least 433 shafts dug into chalk to reach seams of flint.
Grime's Graves are near the Great Rees Bogg, a place famous for its 'top hats'. These black cylindrical headgear items extend above the cerebral cortex & are filled with rabbits to protect the skull during underground 'jumping up & down' dances of rage in the 'passages of time'.

Thought I'd offer a few thoughts as to how this whole #brexit business is so bitterly divisive to the extent that foreign diplomats liken the divisions as being akin to that preceding civil war
For one thing there simply is no middle ground any soft #brexit means losing any say over the rules we still have to obey maybots duff deal was an attempt at compromise and was blown away as a worse version of the status quo.
#brexit also tears up the democratic social contract for both sides. Any democracy relies on all parties accepting the result of a vote but any campaign must also be conducted within the law

Brexit deal dead.
After this crushing defeat of May's Brexit deal, a loss by 230 votes, she will face a confidence vote brought by Corbyn & Labour. She's pretty sure she will survive that vote but there is no clear path forward. 2nd referendum? Election? #Brexit

I agree with the sentiment but I cannot emphasise enough that #homelessness, #foodbanks, #ChildPoverty, #HostileEnvironment all existed before #brexit. They are not a consequence of #brexit but #Conservatives policy. It doesn't have to be this way, it's a political choice ->
Before someone from #FBPE jumps in and says "that's because focus has been on brexit" ... not it isn't. This is #Conservative policy. The privatisation of #NHS, the changes in #Education, reductions in #LegalAid ... where has the #EU been in stopping all this? It hasn't.
There has been a constant drive to reform society from health to education, none of which is about addressing the issues of inequality.

The Protocol is intended as ‘insurance’ in case a future UK-EU agreement is insufficient to meet the commitments made in the Joint Report bit.ly/2Bgjvj6. In that sense it is *already* conditional & envisaged as temporary.
It is a backstop, not a precursor.

The Protocol is the EU showing most flexibility (cherrypicking) *for* Northern Ireland in the very areas that the UK is finding hard to swallow, i.e. NI being in a Common Regulatory Area and the Customs Territory of the EU.
