It's amazing how many Brexiters hold up the theoretical future collapse of the EU as a reason to crash out of it now. No-deal is like demolishing your home around you because a roof tile looks a bit wobbly. Yes, if the EU were to fail economically, it would be bad for the UK.
But that would be a relatively slow failure, signposted at every turn, giving us the opportunity to react. No-deal is as abrupt as a guillotine blade. Head on the block on 12 April, *snick*, and our economy's rolling in the gutter.
So it seems very odd to crave the *certainty* of a quick economic death in 8 days time over a *possible* long-term decline. There must be something else at work beside rationality. Lust for power? Hatred of Europe? Whatever it is, it's trumping common sense!
