Media consensus is that Theresa May has just asked for an Article 50 extension in the most illogical and unhelpful way possible, by requesting it until 30 June (a date the EU have already rejected) but stating the UK will participate in European elections.
That is, unless the Brexit deal is signed by 23 May, in which case the elections will be unceremoniously cancelled. But who's going to stand, or spend money and energy campaigning, under such ludicrously uncertain conditions?! Makes a mockery of the whole thing.
Yet if we do end up staying in the EU longer, our MEPs will be crucial.

In short: typical. Just when you thought you'd figured out the worst possible Brexit strategy, Theresa May goes and one-downs it!
If you're feeling *very* strong this morning, you can read Theresa May's 3 page (!!) waffle of a letter to the EU here. In it she lays blame for the current situation on Parliament, and preemptively smears some on Jeremy Corbyn and Labour for good measure.
gov.uk/government/pub…
Meanwhile, imagine what businesses must be thinking. The utter despair at the impossibility of planning for the next Brexit steps. Will we be out in a week, a month, a year? Who knows! Will there be a deal? Who knows! Do we have to keep stockpiling? Who knows!
