Vote Leave said we would be part of a free trade zone from Iceland to the Russian border

That is the European Economic Area. Being “part of it” means being in the single market.
Oh look @piersmorgan here is Vote Leave talking about a deal before we start the legal process to leave
The point is this: there were lots of conflicting messages in the run up to the vote.

You cannot claim leave means no deal when the official leave body said there would be a deal and it would include in effect the EEA
If you are claiming a mandate for no deal now you need to win that mandate

That means you should be advocating another referendum

1/ It would have been the version of remain that Cameron agreed with the EU
2/ So remember the referendum act 2011 would have still applied to any further proposed transfer of powers
3/ then add in the UK had the best deal while being in the EU including a large rebate, an opt out of the Euro, an opt out of Schengen, veto over new members, Treaty change and any proposed EU army

One of the strange things about the Brexit debate at the moment is the persistence of certain idées fixes about the PM's Brexit deal & its alternatives which are repeated by critics

Here's a Sunday afternoon mythbusting thread

Myth 1 - the deal isn't Brexit

This is often repeated; yet it is simply preposterous

Deal would take us out EU - no commissioner, no MEPs, no compulsory financial contributions (once exit bill settled), no voting rights, basically out EU legal order

It literally is Brexit

B)
Myth 2 - this deal would mean BRINO or staying in Single Market

Again this is total rubbish

The deal takes us definitively out the Single Market.

Even in the backstop, we would be free of practically all Single Market rules & could end free movement & diverge on services

For many months now @Keir_Starmer has been manoeuvring Labour towards a position where they could back a second referendum, with remain on the ballot paper.

At Labour Conference in September, a motion was passed explicitly putting such an option on the table

The point, in a nutshell, is that at the time of the referendum there was a general failure to understand the extent to which our legal, political, and economic arrangements had become tied up with the EU.
Vast areas of our law depend on EU law. And the economic model of businesses from farming to car manufacture to legal and financial services is structured around EU membership.

1. A thread on #trade and aid.

One of the first tangible benefits of #Brexit I've seen is the emerging reform of @DFID_UK where it is becoming more of an arm of trade policy than a state owned humanitarian NGO. I would like that to go much further and rethink trade.
2. I do not think we should be wasting too much effort on free trade deals largely because they are of questionable value and encourage inefficient value chains. Any work on tariffs should really be reserved for multilateral activity.
3. Instead we need DfID as the spearhead of our trade policy. There is no reason why we cannot pursue humanitarian goals and enhance our trade while we are at it. For a start we can do a lot with medicines and pharmacy products.
