The cognitive distortions by which we are being manipulated into believing Biden has a major abuse problem is at the heart of every exploitation by a narcissistic psychopath. The victims always become the “crazy” “unhinged” or “creepy” perpetrators and scapegoats.
I’m not discussing whether Biden is or should be a viable candidate. I’m discussing the psychological manipulation by which Biden’s behavior is being made synonymous or worse than Trump’s. I see lots of people who should know better playing right into the manipulative ploy.
This all or nothing thinking creates distortions to reality. My husband occasionally going over the speed limit in the middle of the night to get to an emergent case at the hospital to save a life is not the same as daily erratic 100 mph driving while intoxicated by a drunk.
People have behaviors that can be ameliorated while others have ones that are so entrenched and pathological they are resistant to treatment, or in Trump’s case, incurable. Psychological manipulation tactics to make these behaviors remotely synonymous is psychological abuse.
We will cure nothing if we participate in cognitive distortions. Narcissistic righteousness can be a form of psychological manipulation just as destructive as any other exploitation. Christian extremists brought us this mess. Keep it up & we’ll get 4 more years of Trump.
