as i attempt to expand my little graphic studio situation, broadcasting our vibe beyond the twittersphere, i thought id see if theres any requests or anything anyone wants to see from me. i want to do more saint stuff, have some anti-alien stuff on deck.. if u got suggestions lmk
this summer once i get back from travelling my plan is to drop some fine art prints + focus on tiny bishop book publishing stuff, will probably start with a coloring book (if u got kids ill send u stuff) + simple book mock up about christian art history to show to some publishers
tiny bishop hits the museum, discusses basic christian art themes, scopes some major works like the pieta and some classic artists... honestly its gonna be pretty awesome NGL
was kind of lying awake thinking last night, its pretty interesting, i used to do some more dark serious work but i feel like when i got really depressed about the state of the world my whole art making situation shifted over to imagery that was more innocent, happy, and positive
theres a part in this documentary about black metal and the band mayhem where the guy says that his least favorite artist is frida kahlo because its so bright and colorful. he says if youre in an oppressed situation or actively unhappy with life you want to make uplifting art
he contrasts this with his own extremely dark black metal which he says comes from feeling that life is intensely grey and boring and desiring to feel something. i dont really identify with the specifics of this characterization but in general i feel that its correct [...]
just felt wrong investing my energy into making dark stuff when the world already has so much bad stuff in it, especially when you consider the power of art to uplift people or to elevate the human spirit, either formally w hardcore beautiful paintings or casually with fun images
i dont really judge other peoples "creating stuff" situation but thats definitely how it played out for me personally. i also think this specifically applies to images for a variety of reasons and isnt really the case for other art forms... thoughts for the mind
