Fake news about “Fake Justice”: thread

/ Three weeks ago, the Dutch Minister of foreign affairs, Stef Blok, responded to parliamentary questions designed to delegitimize funding provided by the Netherlands to @btselem . Links to full responses in the end of this thread.
/ Block rejected the claims implied by the questions, which echoed allegations by @CIDINieuws , an Israel advocacy group in the Netherlands, and @ngomonitor.
/ The main claim rejected was that the Dutch government commissioned B’Tselem’s report “Fake Justice”, that criticizes the responsibility of Israel’s High Court of Justice for the demolition of Palestinian homes and the dispossession of Palestinians. btselem.org/publications/s…
/ The “Evidence” cited is was NGO monitor’s baseless interpretation of a routine document it obtained through a freedom of information request, published last December, then re-hashed in February.
/ The “expose”, generated media coverage & Parliamentary questions by Dutch pro-occupation right-wing parties: The Freedom Party (PVV), the ultranationalist party of xenophobe Geert Wilders, & 2 small Christian parties: SGP and CU, which is in the Dutch gov.
/ On 14 March 2019, Minister Blok firmly rejected these claims. This is illustrated by his clear and unequivocal answer to the following, question (unofficial translation):
/ “Is it true that the objective and conclusions of the B’Tselem report have been determined in advance, or have been steered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs?”
/ Answer:
“No. The research goals were defined in advance by B’Tselem, and the conclusions were drawn by B’Tselem based on the research conducted. The Netherlands has not given any direction at all to research goals or conclusions in advance, or when the research was conducted.”
/ The minister also affirms the Dutch government’s position in support of Israeli civil society, including B'Tselem & rejects claim that the funding “undermines the independent judiciary” in Israel. Says critique of high court is part of freedom of expression. Links follow
/ Neither NGO monitor nor CIDI updated their followers or media that this interpretation has been rejected by the Dutch government. CIDI, which was swift to publish both sets of questions, hasn’t yet seen fit to update its website to include the answers.
