People who get mad at other people for playing single-player games at reduced difficulty are simply afraid of being devalued.

They've chosen to define themselves by their hobby, and therefore their value lies in being good at it.
However, that value only exists to them because they feel other people will find it impressive.

So if other people decide beating difficult video games has no value, it becomes an attack on everything they've defined themselves by.
At least, that's my theory.

I think it's less about the actual trivial issue and more about the personal implications it has for someone who has made gaming a defining aspect of their personality.
