1. For anyone interested, check out the letter written by one of Trump’s lawyers, William Consovoy, saying the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee has no right to request Trump’s tax returns. This assertion is directly refuted by the applicable law, 26 USC sec. 6103(f) 
2. The letter reads like something from The Onion. Trump’s lawyer prattles on about the First Amendment, then in “but-her-emails” fashion he complains that other presidents haven’t had THEIR tax returns requested (um, that because other presidential candidates disclosed them) .
3. He even references the House Un-American Activities Committee from the 1950’s. One thing he does NOT do is quote the very statutory language that defeats his argument: “Upon written request from the chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means of the House of Representatives...
4. the Secretary shall furnish such committee with any return or return information specified in such request, except that any return or return information which can be associated with, or otherwise identify, directly or indirectly, a particular taxpayer shall be furnished...
5. to such committee only when sitting in closed executive session unless such taxpayer otherwise consents in writing to such disclosure.” One of the operative words in the statute is “SHALL” give over the tax returns. One more really interesting aspect of the letter...
6. Not once does Trump’s lawyer assert that Trump is “under audit.” Now, Trump couldn’t have been lying to us about that all along, could he have? This nonsense is just another delay tactic to push down the road Trump’s day of reckoning. America has had enough!
