All of these things can be true:

1. This is a sincerely held reading of where we are politically

2. It is a reading heavily bound up with a particular ideological stance

3. Those with opposite ideological views expressed similar views with similar vehemence in pre-Brexit yrs
Its also worth recalling (1) that Remain voters' answers on a range of perceptual measures such as views about the state of the economy swung far further in a negative direction than can credibly be accounted for by any objective shift
And (2) that on basically any measure of intolerance that has been asked, those who express a strong tribal "Remain" identity express greater hostility towards "Leave" voters than "Leave" partisans do towards "Remainers".
So I think it is not unreasonable to note that a propensity among Remainers to see threats and dangers everywhere in part reflects a partisan reaction to an enemy/outgroup being unexpectedly on top. Just as occurred in reverse for socially conservative voters for yrs pre Brexit
Such a heightened sensitivity can, however, also coincide with a genuine rise in dangers and threats - the two are overlapping but distinct. For example, real and worrying electoral malpractice can coexist with exaggerated beliefs about the effects of such malpractice.
