The topic wasn't about gamblers You should have stated some of these points during segment its really said when someone uses "they or them" as blanket suggesting for anything but to say all regulatory cuts by Trump were nefarious designed to harm people is beyond cynical. ..heck
liberals like Jamie Dimon applauded those regulatory actions.
It wasn't a segment on the Obama economy- really from the depths he inherited the rebound should have been much stronger. ..many in public don't understand but a professor should.
If you didn't like topic or felt it was beneath you or wanted to dismiss it out of hand (the comment about the popular vote was a sore loser talking point- had zero to do with topic) you should have declined invite.

I’ve said for a long time there is an amazing societal convergence that sees the peak of materialism, elitism, and need to be recognized all at the same time.
Anything that can add to the façade of prestige and importance from photos in front of private jets to post on Instagram to the surge of plastic surgery procedures including 200,000 teens last year.
And many parents have gotten into the action which might explain their fixation on getting their children into an Ivy League school at any cost. Anyone can get a lift or a tuck but consider 16 US presidents including the last five attended an Ivy League school.

When the media frames President Trump reopening government as a "win" for Pelosi it underscores the true source of division and divisiness in the country. Government should always be seeking policies that benefit the nation.
When those policies, are creating jobs and higher wages, wider prosperity and optimism it's a win for America not a person or party. Oddly that narrative has been nonexistent the last two years and those "wins" hardly reported.
President Trump did the right thing on Friday because too many Americans were being hurt. He will always lose the media-driven blame game so that should be irrelevant in his decision-making. By the same token he should be looking for a wins for all Americans.

Today I was rushing home walking through Time Square when I had to stop for traffic. There was a homeless women sitting under the sign with her head down. I slipped $50 bill into the hat she was using to collect any donations. I turn back and waited for the light to change.
That's when someone tapped me on the back. I turned and it was the woman, standing there with tears in her eyes. She reached out hug me and told me she could buy her medicine. Her emotions were so powerful and I hugged her back as I shed a couple tears, too.
I grappled with sharing this story because its not why I helped her. But the thing is she helped me so much more. Her joy and appreciation only makes me want to help more people- especially helpless strangers. So, I'm sharing the story to remind everyone to count your blessings.

I have had PDs mentor grad students. It's important to check with both to make sure the mentoring is going well. Also let the student know the PD won't write the letter of Rec if the student doesn't want that.
Also, to any PD who abuses students this way: you suck. Stop. Never joke to an international student about deportation. It's not funny, ever. If you are someone who sees this behavior, don't encourage it, and if possible, report it.
Student 15: I felt that my MS advisor was verbally abusive. I frequently felt like a failure and it made it so that I was scared to go to him if something went wrong. Which of course made him more mad. 1/3

During #35c3 buildup, I joked to someone from orga that "We're not building the new Berlin airport here."

"Well, no, if we were tasked with that, it would be ready for passenger service after teardown."

A good a point as any to begins my long thread of thoughts on C3s.
The most difficult thing any successful event can do is scale. You could fit 9 of the #25c3 venues in just one hall of the #35c3.

Scaling up creates new problems and amplifies existing ones you used to be able to ignore.

Every time you scale up you risk destroying the event.
As you scale up successfully, you'll always have the people who say the last venue, the last year, the last (whatever) was better.

The people who never saw it won't understand it, just like those who saw the magic for the first time at #35c3 will never be dissuaded.

Modern pop culture is similarly fixated on the idea of insanity rippling through the popular unconscious.

Gaiman's abstract/symbolic cosmos is very much in keeping with Russell T. Davies' approach to concepts like "the Time War."
