Who claims "sex games gone wrong"?

A few people have asked this, so we made this infographic:

There are 50 UK women and 5 UK men who've died in what the men suspected claim is "sex games gone wrong", or "rough sex" or BDSM.

There may be more we have not yet found. There are many more cases of women injured...

by men who claim in court the women consented to the violence as part of sex.

We have found a small number of cases of women who are thought to have killed themselves in a "sex game". BUT in 2 of those a man was later convicted of murder, in 1 further the police failed to

treat the place she died as a crime scene, and in the final case the coroner considered only the possibilities that she had died by suicide or sex game.

There are no cases where it is clear that women died as a result of self inflicted "sex games", in the UK.

"Sex games" or rough sex/BDSM "gone wrong" does appear to be solely a crime of male violence in the UK, whether the victims are female or male (including the men themselves). #wecantconsenttothis

We have found a v small number of cases where both male and female suspects claim "*someone else* killed them, in a sex game gone wrong". This seems never to have worked as part of a defence

And we have found 2 women who have killed their male partners having first tied them up in *what press reports call* a sex game. The women themselves haven't claimed this as part of defence.

We didn't expect this when we started - that "sex games" would be starkly male violence.

And to recap - of the 50 UK women who've died in claimed sex games, 1 has just had charges brought. Of the 49, in 20 cases the defence could be said to have "worked":
