Every last one of these questions sums up the problem. 1) Most people can't afford college without debt and you have no idea what you will earn after. 2) It is so representative of the toxicity of a society where people no longer believe we should invest in each other.
As an 18 year-old, working-class kid, all I was sold my entire high school career was that I needed to go to college so i could change my life. Student loan debt was considered *being responsible.* You cannot at tht age understand how heavy the debt will be nor guarantee earnings
So, instead of asking questions about what kind of society we are where even going to state schools leads to five-digit debt, we choose to shame those forced to borrow for an education for not being responsible.
Maybe we should start asking not what do you think you are owed, but what do we owe each other. And, asking why do we hate our fellow Americans so much that we would rather be a stingy society where every1 goes it alone instead of one where we all put in a little for common good?
