in the woods outside new york city a taino shaman once told me that when an animal looks at you in the eyes it is attempting to transfer some of its power to you. since then i avoid looking at so called "small dogs"
this happened after i told him about an experience i had fasting in the woods. hadnt eaten for a few days. woke up. heard intense rustling, some animal running to me. friend had told me of boars that gore people. grabbed huge stick to fight it. turned out to be mother deer + fawn
she burst out of the woods with kid, stared at me for a minute, ran off. suppose that since then i have had some affinity for deer. i also enjoy the saint who saw the illumined cross between a deers antlers. i respect hunting laws unlike my dad.. who can say what such things mean
