Jose > Pep. Not because one's alpha and the other is a bald bitch. No. Not because one is more entertaining or charismatic than the other. No. Even putting the trophies aside... It's deeper than that. It's the story. It's the Futboll Heritage.
Pep was groomed for leadership since his days at Barcalona B. He was always going to get an elite club. He walked into one of the greatest squads in history with arguably the best player in history as well. Then he went to treble winning Bayern then limitless money City.
Jose's story is much more epic. He didn't come from a great fooball team. He started as a translator for Bobby Robson at Sporting CP. Then he became a translator at Bobby's next club Porto. Then moved with him to Barca. At Barca he became more involved in coaching.
Then LVG came Jose was still seen as a translator but had more responsibilities under LVG. But he wanted to be a great Manager even though he wasn't getting his big break. That still didn't stop him. He struggled and clawed his way through until he went Benfica.
That's where he became an official coach. But even there it was adversity as politics of Football interfered. The president of Benfica wanted an ex-player to be Manager. This caused a problem. So Jose resigned and he kept pushing. Always hungry never doubting himself.
He wasn't as connected as these ex-players as Jose wasn't an ex-player himself. But if greatness wasn't handed to him then he'd just take it. He got his chance at Uniao De Leira. He took them 4th, 1 point ahead of Portuguese giants Porto.
That gave him the recognition at last for his first big Job in Football. He was given his mentors old Job. At Porto. Where once he was a translator now he was the Manager. He won his first League title ever at Porto. Then a year later he guided them to a historic treble.
He slayed the mighty Manchester United under Ferguson and finally got the recognition he wanted. It wasn't given to him. He took it. Then after that he came to London. To a little club called Chelsea. The PL was dominated by 2 powerhouses. Sir Alex at United and Wenger at Arsenal
Yet he still managed to deliver Chelsea their first PL in 50 years. He broke the duopoly on the League and won back to back PL titles. Establishing Chelsea as a powerhouse in the League. This wasn't enough. He then set his sights on Italy.
He went to Inter and delivered them the first treble in Italian History. He beat the golden boy Pep with 10 men at Camp Nou. Slaying the great Barca with all the odds set against him. He was the man mocked as 'El traductor' at Barca. Now he was here. Pulling off the impossible.
He joined Real Madrid after that. A time where Madrid struggled to get into finals and win trophies. Jose won them La Liga against arguably the greatest side in Football history. He broke the records for most points and goals ending the Barca dominated league.
He then returned to Chelsea to win then the League again. Jose loved Chelsea. He always appreciated the club that allowed him to grow his name. He won 3 PLs at the club. Half of all their League titles in their history. But he was betrayed and the fans turned on him.
He then joined the club he'd always wanted. The club which suited his "Me against the world" attitude. Manchester United. He joined them when they were in one of their worst periods in recent history. He brought back the swagger and arrogance to Old Trafford winning 3 trophies.
Yet he was betrayed by soft, egotistical, selfish players again. The parasite owners and CEO promised him glory only to turn their backs on him and leave him alone. Some fans stuck by him. Others turned their backs on him. He wanted to make United great but the owners didn't.
I have no doubt he'll be back in Management making history again. After all, this is Jose Mourinho. Everything he has he's earnt through hard work and sheer force of will.

That's why for me, it's always Jose > Pep. The Enemy of Football always comes out on top eventually.
