The dominant narrative of Brexit - that it was the revenge of the 'left behind' - leads the Left to a number of political culs-de-sac. /1 dannydorling.org/?p=7253
But, the most dangerous, for those (like me) who project Brexit as a key battleground in the culture wars is that it causes you to misascribe to deprivation what was in fact caused by something else. /2
That is dangerous because if my side in the culture wars lazily fixes on the wrong reason for our loss in the battle of Brexit we are going to carry on losing - and not know why. /3
(The obligation for those on the Left to address deprivation, of course, neither begins nor ends with the role of deprivation in the culture wars. But if you believe you're losing, and you want to stop losing, it's best to have a clear focus on why you're losing.) /ENDS
