1/ I'm a Latina scientist (look up my bio). Believe me: even we, who have obvious advantage at any analysis of Latin America, have failed to see, for example, the specificities of the far-right rise in Brazil. Let's talk about reactions to Venezuela.

2/ It would take me a lot of time to review material necessary for a decent opinion piece. But here are some basic rules: anything Bolsonaro touches is wrong. Totally wrong. If Bolsonaro is supporting something, assume it's wrong.

3/ Read Venezuelan sources. For example, @venanalysis. There are plenty of sources in English for you to read.

4/ Just consider a few things: why is the Trump administration so concerned with Venezuela when this is happening in Saudi Arabia (where recently an American journalist was chain-saw cut in pieces on audio , but that's fine...)

5/ The USA screwed up in Latin America every time they intervene. The wave of bloody far-right military dictatorships installed in the continent during the 60's and 70's was enthusiastically encouraged by the USA government (actually they did a little more than encourage).

6/ I'm not saying Venezuela is fine. Nor should you: if you are reading this, there is an almost zero chance that you can have an informed opinion about Venezuela. But you can have an opinion about Trump and Bolsonaro. So #HandsOffVenezuela.
