I first learned to appreciate the difference between navigational search and exploratory search @LinkedIn. Navigational is when you are trying to get to content that you already know exists. In the case of LinkedIn, that's usually typing a name of a person to get to their profile
Exploratory search is when you are trying to find something new that you don't yet know what it is. @LinkedIn, this was often searching to find someone at a specific company with a specific title. We realized the bulk of searches sales professionals cared about were exploratory.
So we built a much better exploratory search experience into Sales Navigator designed to make it incredibly efficient to find net new prospects. With @notejoyapp, we knew that most people just used GDocs search navigationally: getting back to a doc they already knew existed.
But we wanted @notejoyapp to be great at exploratory searches: enabling you to discover institutional knowledge within your org that you weren't sure existed. And so we built a search experience designed from the ground up for that.
We offer rich previews of every note with your term highlighted and the note scrolled to the first occurrence. We support fuzzy matching. We index attached docs & OCR images. And we make it all incredibly fast to get results and to navigate through them.
Because of all this, our users often tell us searching in @notejoyapp is a delight compared to traditional document collaboration tools. But we also wanted to do something to improve traditional navigational searches. So we just launched Quick Find to accomplish this.
Quick Find enables you to type Cmd+J, type a few characters of your note title, and press enter to jump directly to that note. We've optimized this experience for pure navigation. It's incredibly fast & real-time, doing a complete local search right within the app.
It's great for not only notes, but also for jumping to libraries, notebooks, tags, authors, as well as running commands like adding notes, importing documents, and more. Hope you'll check out both of these search experiences we've crafted in @notejoyapp. notejoy.com/releases?id=187
