Those days Christians in particular came out in strength to protest the behaviour of Periyarist slogans and ideas.
How things have changed over last 4-5 decades!
Govts in TN weren't receptive to such ideas of conversion and hate
+
Covert attempts were always there through marriages and such kinds of emotional blackmail.
But Christians were emboldened by anti Hindu Govt at TN level in DMK and used it up to the fullest levels
+
Tho', JJ did insist on stopping such conversions via legislation, DMK merrily encouraged it.
Periyarists clung on to Christian missonaries and sang anti Hindu slogans
+
It was 15% minorities with State support Vs 85% majority

All Temples brought under HR&CE were looted both in terms of funds as well as other immovable and antique assets.
Temples were left with Govt officers who got paid exhorbitant salaries with Govt benefits.
Subsidies went to ..
+
..minorities religion under the garb of Secularism and plunder continued in temples.
Only when BJP started voicing the concerns in TN, for the first time even the TN Govt sat up and started noticig the illsof temples.
Everytime Jaya came to power she tried to atleast spend..
+
But DMK mercilessly put down the temples and continued the plunder of resources, directly and indirectly.
Known atheists were appointed Trustees of temple boards who focussed on taking money away from temples
+
With such treatment by the state under DMK rule TN temples found their voice when BJP came to power in 2014 which ultimately resulted in the resurgence of the Hindu majority trying to establish their positions.
Result is seen in MHC calling
+
..for why hould state be involved in Temple administration only and not other religious worship places.
We shall hope the trend strengthens in the days ahead and temples exploit this new found freedom
