Minnesota state House Dems just advanced a bill with a ton of provisions to protect voting rights, end gerrymandering, & join National Popular Vote Compact. Don't expect these to become law, but they could if Dems flip the MN Senate in 2020 (via @MinnPost) revisor.mn.gov/bills/text.php…
I didn't link to MinnPost's article because its entire framing was ahistorical spin about how Dems were suddenly the ones breaking the supposed norm of "all election law changes must be bipartisan." The GOP did that in 2012 yet Dems didn't follow suit when they could have in 2013
A norm of only passing major election law changes with bipartisan support may seem like a decent principle when both parties are acting in good faith, but Minnesota Republicans passed a party-line voter suppression bill right after winning their first majorities in 4 decades ...
Fortunately, Minnesota voters rejected the GOP's voter ID constitutional amendment by a 54-46 margin at the ballot box in 2012. Minnesota remains one of the best states for voting rights & high voter turnout, & the Democrats' new election law package would ensure that continues
