1. You may be wondering WTF is happening at the New York Times.

Let me explain in plain English.
2. In order to get those sweet, sweet scoops about the internal workings of the White House, you need RELATIONSHIPS with people who have access to the White House.

You may want to text, for example, with Rudy Giuliani
3. In many cases, Giuliani is just getting revenge on someone else inside the White House so who cares. He has a bone to pick with Jared Kushner or Jeff Sessions? Great. Gimme the scoop.
4. But those scoops have a price. Rudy isn't just going to dish on Kushner and Sessions. He also has a story for you on BIDEN.

Oh, you think the Biden story is BS? That's fine. Rudy will take that story and all his future stories on Kushner and Sessions to the Washington Post.
5. So you print the story on Biden. It's an embarrassment but people forget it quickly as you keep churning out legitimate scoops.

But now Rudy has another favor. He'd like you to write an article that suggests the Obama administration was SPYING on the Trump campaign
6. Trump's actual claim was Obama wiretapped Trump Tower but this is close enough. And yes, this is just part of a counter-intelligence operation that people have known for many years was active in the Summer of 2016. But Hannity and Fox & Friends won't worry about those details
7. Now eventually, the Biden story and the Spying story and a lot of the stories your sources are using to get revenge on people outside of the White House will fall apart. But no one will remember those stories. They'll remember actual scoops you get and you'll get a Pulitzer.
8. There was no price to pay for printing this story a week before the election, or all the Clinton email stories. There won't be for the Biden story or the spying story.

The system rewards success. It does not punish failure.
9. The NYT times is happy to suck up your anti-Trump dollars with these "truth" t-shirts. But, as any Times reporter will tell you, they do not oppose Trump. It's a scam perpetrated by their marketing department.
10. Anyway, I love the NYT and read it daily and many of the reporters there are amazing and are my friends but you deserve the actual truth about the role the publication serves in the news ecosystem.
11. If you are looking to support an alternative model that is not based on access, check out my newsletter Popular Information. We still have scoops. They just come from primary source documents and ordinary people.

You can subscribe at popular.info
12. Another way to look at this is Giuliani is "publishing" his counter-report to Mueller, piece-by-piece, in the NYT
