i wrapped up watching this show last night called "living with the amish" where a few british teenagers go to live with some american amish families for a few weeks. was interesting, but one of the effects this experience had on one of the kids i found especially noteworthy. [..]
there was this kid of the show named james who was, respectfully, kind of a london street kid type character. one parent in jail, lived alone, played video games all the time, went out to party with a friend, etc., basically exactly what youd expect. [...]
during their time in america these kids met the full amish families including the women. at one of these houses he actually asked the women there what their recommendation would be if he was looking for a wife, which seemed highly out of character. [..]
at the end of the show, they asked them what they took away from it, and one thing he said was that he thought about girls feelings more and that basically one day he wanted a wife who would be a partner to him to have an intact family, kind of like what the amish have.
i just thought this was super interesting, that this full on london streetrat with a broken home left his time in amish world, where our culture tells us women are disrespected and treated like property or slaves, respecting women way more and thinking of them more as real people
i think this is kind of an innate male response to encountering an actual virtuous modest woman (for him, almost definitely for the first time) and wonder how many men have never actually sat down to speak with a woman who doesnt hate her femininity + is like this (most of them)
its obvious but, just kind of a trip to imagine what the innate deep biological male response would be if our culture uplifted more women like this and more young men saw that this was something possible (he also said his work ethic improved). thoughts for the mind
