“So you can’t take a bullet for me?”

Orin teased as the blood started flowing into the bag. “Its small needle you are complaining about”.

John smiled. He would actually take a bullet for her. He wondered if she realised that was how much he loved her.
“How long would it take?” He Inquired.

“10 to 15 minutes”.

That wasn't so bad, he always imagined the process to take at least an hour.
All in all he had been in the hospital less than 30 minutes.
“They would still have to monitor you for 10-15 minutes after donation though” Orin continued.

They were to be married in 2 weeks and Orin who worked at the hospital had finally convinced him to donate blood. “Everyday people die, because of blood shortage” she pressed.
He had always wondered if it was true? Did people actually die from lack of blood available in the hospital?. Didn't other people donate? Wasn't there some company that could produce blood and people buy it?
“Only 2 persons have voluntarily donated blood in the last month. John, Blood is not manufactured, there is literally no other way to get blood. Now imagine how many sick people who need blood are in the hospital right now”
Orin said, while checking the bag
“But do they really need my type?” he retorted as the blood continued flowing into the Bag.
It was actually quite painless and uneventful. He had expected to feel the life draining out of him as the blood left his body or something more dramatic. But it was just unremarkable.
He just felt the pinch from the needle prick and that was it. No Life force draining out of him, no drowsiness or dizziness. Uneventful. He was ashamed that he had been terrified about it
“John. There is not enough blood. Not in the Hospital, not in the State, not in the Country, not in the World.” she said notably sadder, her voice perceptibly down a notch as if the realisation dawned on her afresh.
He wondered how many people she had seen die due to unavailability of blood.

“Every Type, Every Pint is invaluable and would save a life, so please come and donate agan in 3 months” Orin pleaded while removing the needle.
