I haven't really had any time to process between work, duties as chair of @MetroATLDSA, having a baby, advising people in Portland; but I just got a minute to reflect and the response to the resource guide we are making in Atlanta is so beautiful.
I expected my friends to like it and maybe some businesses to reach out. I did not expect to go mini viral. I did not know so many people knew how important a book like this could be. I did not know that so many cities are lacking this resource.
The best part is all the people from other cities that we will be able to send the templates and instructions too. This could spread like wildfire and literally save lives. I couldn't be more proud.
And really, I just had a really bad experience on this app like a week ago when I was being attacked left and right and to then see all the beauty that can exist on twitter is just inspiring and encouraging. We just might make it fellow humans.

Hard pill to swallow: Many of the Oregon Democrats who voted to gut PERS despite union opposition, have already had progressive primary challengers in the past but those same unions ended up endorsing the incumbent.
So yes those Dems should be primaries, but we also should have all been supporting their progressive primary challengers before the deed was done. These same Dems have been screwing us for years but the unions keep endorsing them and spending $ for them.
And to be clear, this is not the union members fault. This does not mean those Dems are as bad as republicans. I said what I meant. Centrist Dems should have progressive primary challengers and they often do, and the union often endorses the incumbent. Just facts.

For my generation and those younger, politics isn’t just a sport. For parents like me who are raising small children, politics isn’t funny. We are in the middle of a climate crisis and the party that is supposed to help, is full of capitalists.
We are debating the Paris climate accords as if that was going to save us. Cap and trade won’t save us. Cutting emissions won’t save us. Democrats won’t save us. Only an end to capitalism can save us. We don’t have time.
Capitalism is killing the entire world and in the end all working people, fascist sympathizers or not, are going to be fucked. You idiot republicans and conservatives have blood on your hands.

Some people are upset about the resource guide. They are saying it is a replica of some amazing work that was done at Atlanta Youth Count by students. That is false. These are completely different guides, for different purposes. We first reached out to AYC in December.
For over 5 months we have been working tirelessly on a different guide. We did, after reaching out to AYC continue using the same icons which seemed very in line with our conversation with them. Again, their guide is wonderful and can be found here: atlantayouthcount.weebly.com
We use their guide in our office for our case workers and front desk to be able to point people to researchers. It only made more clear the need for a different book. Not to take away from theirs but to supplement it for a different group, different needs, and a different purpose

Portland PD has been using a fascist gang called Patriot Prayer as a paramilitary group to attack leftists, literally giving them directions on where to find left-wing marches and promising them immunity on outstanding warrants. "Some of those that work forces..."
#portland pd has a long history of white-power activity, most/all of which has gone unpunished. In 1981, officers Craig Ward and Jim Galloway tossed dead possums in front of a black-owned restaurant. "Possum" is a common slur for Black people in the PNW. wweek.com/portland/artic…

The point of the presentation is working towards Work/Life balance. But really, half of it is about burnout. And a little about crunch. And some about self care. But what it isn't is a list of things "Do this and you'll be fine." Because it doesn't work like that. Each person's-
situation and answers to the problems are going to be different. What works for some people doesn't work for others. The idea is that by explaining how I figured it out, maybe you can find your way too.
First - WLB isn't about Time Management. The ability to manage your time *helps* but it's not the answer. You can keep everything neatly planned and still get crispy. The bigger and far more important part is Energy Management.

The only thing that stopped #Portland from being next #Charlottesville was several centimetres of helmet. Police sent two people to the hospital for head injuries in attacks justified by claims of non-existent "thrown projectiles" in order to protect the heavily armed far-Right.
This was carried by police who for months have used the same tactic - shoot one side to allow the other to escape. In this case, Proud Boys, who for months have attacked citizens walking on the street, were allowed to march and attack more people.
The Portland police are also on record saying that Patriot Prayer is "more mainstream" (guess Kek flags, people who attended Unite the Right, and shirts celebrating mass murderers are mainstream now) despite the ongoing links between far-Right violence and out right killers.
