Oh my, Andrea Leadsom MP "It is with great regret and a heavy heart that I have decided to resign from the Government" ->
I might strongly, even vehemently, disagree with a person's policies but I do have respect for the public service they have provided. I do think it's time for May to stand down but I recognise the effort and attempt to find some form of compromise on brexit. Alas, not this path.
My future concern is now the possibility of "Farage as PM". Not because of who he is but rather the unknown of what comes with him. A populist party quickly generated can hide all sorts of views and unknowns within it. Storming EU elections without even a manifesto is ... well.
I suspect by Monday the picture will be of a fragmented remain vote split among many parties that will never coalesce but even if it could it would be overshadowed by single block vote of brexit that dominates. The question becomes, if we continue as is, do we risk Farage as PM?

X : What are your views on self driving cars?
Me : Depends upon what aspect we're talking about? One of my major concerns is the ability for market muppets to further embed social inequality into the transportation system through digital subscription models via route management.
i.e. the cars are all the same but if you're a gold member then "lesser" members will get out of the way for you. Has all sorts of nasty consequences in times of environmental catastrophe ... a flood etc.
X : Why so rude about the market?
Me : I'm not, it's a tool, nothing more.
X : Market muppets?
Me : Unchecked, the market would bring back (actually extend, it never went away) slavery. The market is the mindless bully in the playground. Gov is the kid you hope has a conscience.

Whilst encouraging, there is little point in cheering if the shortfall is being made up with gas. The target really ought to be carbon neutral power generation by 2025, for which we lack the political will -> Britain in two-week coal-free record - bbc.co.uk/news/business-…
Back in the early to mid 1990s, when I used to work in the environmental field, the most ferocious arguments I would get into was over my support for nuclear power over fossil fuels. I'd receive the normal terms of abuse for someone disagreeing with the main "social" view ...
... I haven't changed my view, I still consider the path to be more nuclear (baseline) and massive increase in renewables. Yes, there are long term costs to nuclear but there are short term costs to fossil fuel. Also with nuclear, stop trying to bury the waste out of sight.

Quite separately, a lot of people in the Commons on all sides, will remember how Leadsom worked v hard to try to crack down on bullying and harassment on staff and everyone who works in the crazy westminster village
Also tho hard not to see her resignation tonight in context of her own potential interest in having another crack at the top job

How people who have spent the last three years insinuating their opponents are traitors to the country and democracy have the gall to talk this way is beyond me.
Leadsom says today's motion is not about forcing House to decide a short or long extension, it is just laying out the reality of the options.

It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to terminate my membership of the Labour Party – A party I have supported throughout my life, a party I stood for as a candidate in local elections, a party that that was the natural home for British Jews #LabourAntisemitism
Sadly, I can no longer feel part of what the Labour Party represents today and the decision of the NEC not to adopt the full IHRA definition is the final straw for me.
I don’t believe in quitting, and I had many opportunities to resign my membership but I stayed and fought, I exposed anti-Semites in the party. However, despite hoping that Labour will get its act together, I was let down too many times. I was bullied and was called a Kapo.

My letter to the club - apologies for any typos or dodgy grammar!!

It is regret that I am writing to inform you that I would like cancel my membership above. I cannot continue with my membership if the club insists on being run in the way that is has been for several years now.
I have been supporting Hull City for the best part of 50 years with grandparents, parents, siblings, alone and with friends too numerous to mention in that time. I am therefore cancelling with a heavy heart.
