Back in the early to mid 1990s, when I used to work in the environmental field, the most ferocious arguments I would get into was over my support for nuclear power over fossil fuels. I'd receive the normal terms of abuse for someone disagreeing with the main "social" view ...
... I haven't changed my view, I still consider the path to be more nuclear (baseline) and massive increase in renewables. Yes, there are long term costs to nuclear but there are short term costs to fossil fuel. Also with nuclear, stop trying to bury the waste out of sight.
i.e. we should admit to the long term problems and focus R&D on this space. It's one area I fundamentally disagree with the Greens on. Their "nuclear" policy is misguided in my view. China is far more progressive and active on this - modular reactors, Thorium etc.
