I went thru interviews recently and it sucked

But i have a lot of learnings

Would writing about this be helpful?

Fave for yes, reply if curious specific parts (screening, folio preso, vetting, negotiations, deciding)
Heres some example thoughts (maybe I can just tweet about it)

Interviewing when unemployed is actually super terrible. Most companies work at a timescale where they expect you to be working full time. Waiting weekends is excrutiating bc that's the same as a weekday to you
Set timelines up front.

"I'm hoping to have some confidence in where I'm headed in the next 2-3 weeks"

This helped accelerate processed and set expectations (and screen ppl who were not looking at that time scale)
Backchannel the heck out of companies before you dive into the full process. I'm happy to help anyone suss stuff out if I know ppl (DMs) but it'll help save so much time
Every company negotiates. Even the ones that don't. One company said they didn't multiple times and even over the post offer call, and I ended up moving forward w another, and that same day the company that said no reached back out saying they had "exciting updates"...
(also if you're a company that says they don't negotiate bc of pay fairness, but you don't offer your pay scales transparently to candidates, you're taking advantage of the optics of pay fairness to under pay workers. Please show pay scales or offer negotiaton structure
Oh this makes me think maybe this should have tips for companies too

Like STICK TO YOUR PROMISES ON WHEN YOULL GET BACK TO SOMEONE
Design tests are super common now. Some made me ROFL like Airbnbs FIVE DAY INVENT AN APP test (that's called a startup incubator) and you're not even paid (????)
Ask if you're paid for the design test
Co A 3 days $1500
Co B 8h $500
Co C 3h $200 gift card (but I was penalized heavily for not doing extra)

Turn down shit if you can't afford to do it

Companies should offer alternate options (I'd rather whiteboArd 1h than work 3 days)
Ask to speak to someone reporting to your hiring manager for at least 1 performance review cycle and get the dirt
This is something I learned how to articulate recently from friends

Every company is shit
Find the one where you like the work or company or people ENOUGH for you to put up with the bad shit

That'll change as you grow a d change, and that's okay
For all the shit big cos like FB get wrong, I have never missed the career structure and growth support and employee community more

I can identify so many things at a small co that I wanna fix NOW but I cannot
And ask the company for their process and expected schedule and every session u have to go thru. It's concerning if they don't have one
surveys up to collect info about design tests! please fill it out if youve gone thru one recently and share w your friends!
