Think about what you say! In #VampireTheMasquerade, choose your words carefully, and where appropriate, have them emphasize the Kindred condition. #vamily
For example, have Kindred refer to “tonight,” “this night,” “several nights from now,”etc. Unless they’re specifically referring to events that happen during the hours of daylight, they don’t often mention days.
By the same token, Kindred often say “mortal” instead of “human.” From a thematic perspective, “mortal” helps distinguish vampires from what they once were. Mortal concerns are different (or even lesser, depending on the ideology…) than those of the undead. (Art by Mark Kelly)
And from a game-design perspective, “mortal” is distinct from “human” in that it doesn’t sound like a fantasy race or science-fiction species category.
Even the word "Kindred" itself is a conscious choice by vampires. It at once allows them to be something other than what they are — supporting the Masquerade! — and allows them to pretend to be something better than the monsters they ultimately are.
That counts for other variations on the concept, too. Sabbat vampires prefer the term "Cainite," as it reaffirms their self-image as the vengeful Sword of Caine. And what vampire wouldn't thrill to the poetical gravity of referring to oneself as the "Damned?"
If you watch #labynight, you can see this in practice, as @vampiresnvino is particularly mindful of how word choice helps reinforce not only how the players observe the World of Darkness, but also the watching audience.
