I agree with Jeremy that the Second Referendum is "some way off" but on what planet is the Withdrawal Agreement renegotiable before 31 October? They've disbanded the A50 team in Brussels... 1/ theguardian.com/politics/2019/…
2/ Yes we want a General Election to stop a No Deal on 31 October, but what will Labour's position in that election be? The fight is now No Deal vs Remain, surely? In any case, Labour conference will change this position ... and...
3/ Labour activists will spend the Summer taking the fight against xenophobia and racism into the working class communities Farage is trying to poison - and rebuild support among those that couldn't vote for us last Thursday.

3/ Seumas Milne, Karie Murphy and Ian Lavery MP oversaw this fiasco. The strategy was wrong, the execution was wrong, the comms were wrong. Lavery even defied the whip. If we want to win, they should be replaced by politicians and professional strategists

THREAD. 1/ The Brexit crisis enters a new stage today as a) Labour (at f***ing last!) pull out of the talks and b) Tory leadership race begins. Here's what it means and what the left can do...
2/ The only way the talks could have produced a deal was if Labour were prepared to act as a "virtual Coalition" with the Tories. No leadership could survive that. Hence talks about to end and May reverts to getting deal thru with Tory right/DUP votes.
3/ May can get deal thru if enough Labour MPs defy the whip, party policy and the membership and if unelected party officials encourage them to do so. That's what we need to stop (see below for how)...

... so either May puts PV on table this week or Labour likely to end talks. Can't come too soon - the talks are confusing Labour's mass base and leaving ppl in the dark - Labour front bench need to spill the beans on what's happened and get out now.

2. The referendum was almost three years ago. Article 50 was triggered more than two years ago. The UK will almost certainly be holding European Parliamentary elections. But the UK is still in the EU.
3. Brexit has not happened. It has failed.

And in the process of its failure, Brexit has succeeded in discrediting and disproving many of the assertions and arguments made for it.

Here’s a thread about what last night’s vote means for the Conservative Party. First, the defeat last night was entirely avoidable. A small change in words would have been enough. But there are a lot of stubborn people on all sides & trust is now at rock bottom 1/9
It is however symptomatic of a Downing Street & Whips Office that’s been determined to keep MPs & Parliament at arms length since 2016. To have both pro & anti Brexit MPs abstain against the PM is spectacular mis-handling & this is not the first time it has happened 2/9
The vote at the end of the month may well be ‘high noon’ for some Ministerial careers. But they may be too late. A number of us have been facing threats of death, violence & de-selection since December 2017 while others have been in Government 3/9

Right, here we go. Please fasten seat-belts and make sure your trays are stowed in an upright position, and prepare for rebuttal of the @peoplesvote_uk "dodgy dossier" (this may be a long one....... there is a lot to rebut). You may wish to take tea and come back in an hour.
Essentially the #PVdodgyDossier repeats a few easy-to-discredit old anti-EEA myths, with a smattering of deeper research meant to be authoritative yet isn't. Shame as the author @jonlis1 is a solid researcher let-down by not knowing the law & having his work "edited" by PV.
I have covered two of the myths ("rule taker" and "continuing contributions") in this article. reaction.life/eea-efta-can-f… This is probably as good a place to start as any to understand why the #PVdodgyDossier is so unreliable.

Withdrawal Agreement signs UK up permanently to the blanket provisions of EU law preventing state aid, but not to Article 346 TFEU which exempts defence industry. So EU can choose to let our competitors subsidise their industry forever, and stop ours. @Leonardo_UK #Yeovil
The PM has said she wants to agree Common Security and Defence Policy during the transition period but if we have first passed this Withdrawal Agreement (and its “backstop” that gives the EU a permanent veto against our leaving) then defence is yet another negotiating hostage.
Defence cooperation which should be an asset in this negotiation, perhaps one of our biggest, is thereby turned into a liability. Time to reset this negotiation I think, and stand up for ourselves. Regret to say it looks like current leadership may not be able to.

A thread on the in my view misconceived transition, just agreed between the EU and the UK. My argument is that it fails the EU's own democracy standards, as set in Art 10 TEU ("functioning of the Union shall be founded on representative democracy"). 1/
The UK will no longer be a Member State, but the TEU also says that the Union must uphold its values in its relations with the wider world (Art 3(5)). Does an agreement which asks a third country to comply with all of the acquis comply with this instruction? 2/
Brexiteers may conclude that this constitutes EU bullying. But the UK itself asked for a transition, and did not come with a more detailed proposal. It also insists on leaving the EU by March 2019. So both the EU and the UK are responsible for this. 3/
