Having defended the SC against conservative critics for two years, I’m profoundly disappointed by the politicization of the report and his press conference. @jmeacham summed up the fumble but this SC investigation will rank as among the worst for lack of clarity, botched result
As I explained on @MeetThePress, this disbelief is not “a White House” or “Bill Barr view,” but the view of scholars like @jacklgoldsmith @JonathanTurley, fmr fed 4th Cir Judge Mike Luttig on the record in the @washingtonpost. P 208 of Part II of report is the key.
It says “We did not reach a conclusion.” That was their job, and in fact they did imply one which #AGBarr made explicit: The is no crime of obstruction of justice. The SC seems disappointed about this. “Melting like paper mache in rain” is how I described it on @MeetThePress.
For two years at the @MeetThePress table I’ve defended SC Mueller as a patriot, warrior, man of integrity and of course he still is. But he fumbled this last important task, and badly. Poorly served by someone or many he should have sounded 5 alarms on Russia. He missed chance.
