I think @KenJennings reaches the wrong conclusion in this @TheAtlantic piece, but if you want evidence that the game is no longer for amateurs - which imo breaks the most appealing aspect of the game - then I agree with him here. /1

@KenJennings @TheAtlantic I disagree that people wanted their minds to be blown by other people knowing stuff; if Holzhauer was making a dollar a clue and playing for a new car, I doubt it would be a phenom. People wanted to see someone break the board, and rake in cash. That, to me, is not good. /2
@KenJennings @TheAtlantic In the end a professional gambler from Vegas was beaten by a Jeopardy scholar who *literally wrote a master's thesis on the game* - as Ken says, "not a civilian" - No longer the game where Americans show their smarts, it's a game to be broken by professionals. End of an era. /3x
